Additionally, to cater to the European market, Coventry, England, became the production location for this tractor from 1965 until 1979.
This model enjoyed significant popularity, with several hundred thousand units being built. Alongside its sister model, the Massey Ferguson 165, these tractors stood out as the most successful ones of their time.
Even in the 21st century, the Tractor Massey Ferguson 135 remains in high demand in the second-hand market, particularly in developing countries where it is essential for agricultural needs. This demand is primarily due to its straightforward mechanical design, remarkable reliability, and familiarity among farmers who studied at British farming colleges and have firsthand experience with the model.
The Massey Ferguson 135 tractor was equipped with a 45hp 2.5L Perkins AD3.152 3-cylinder diesel engine. In the United States, there were alternative options, including a 37hp 4-cylinder Continental petrol engine and the Perkins AG3.152 petrol variant.
The tractor featured a 2WD system and had a gearbox with six forward gears and two reverse gears (3+1, high/low range) with a mechanical clutch. Later versions came with an eight-speed transmission, offering more flexibility. Furthermore, a multi-power option was available, providing 12 forward gears and 4 reverse gears, along with a hydraulic clutch.
