Kawasaki KFX 400 Models

This series only produced four models from 2003 to 2006 when the KFX 400 was discontinued. The first 4×4 came from the Suzuki DRZ400 dirt bike and had a smaller carb, cam, and CDI with a gentler curve and lower rpm limit. This arrangement delivered highly useful power, but it didn’t maximize the quad’s capability.

The four-power wheelers increased dramatically after the 2005 cam and carburetor modifications by Kawasaki. The KFX 400 became a high-performance ATV for dirt roads, trails, and sandbanks after these improvements.

Drivetrain

he KFX400 features the ideal blend of power, handling, and suspension thanks to its chain-drive system and vibration-reducing counterbalancer.

The acceleration would be the one small issue if there were any. The vehicle’s peak speed is increased by the stock gearing, but its 0-60 time is not the quickest.

The machine is enjoyable to ride aside from it. With the clutch pushed in, you may start the vehicle in any gear. The left side of the handlebars has a clear view of the choke.

Ignition

The battery and fuses are securely tucked beneath the seat, and the ignition switch is mounted on the center pod. A Yuasa YUAM329BS YTX9-BS Battery (see on Amazon) or any other lithium, AGM, or gel model would be a perfect substitute if you need to switch out your standard batteries.

Just watch out for overcharging, which can create hydrogen that, in the presence of a spark or short circuit, might ignite a fire. Additionally, never swap your factory-installed maintenance-free batteries for a conventional one.

Tires & Brakes

The combination of the 4×4’s wheels and tires allows for an effective braking system. Progressive braking does not involve death-clutching the brake levers in order to stop the vehicle. A further aid in keeping the four-wheeler firmly planted on the tracks is the additional grip provided by factory-installed rubber.

Front Tire, off-road/road air pressure Tubeless Dunlop AT22 x 7-10, 27.58 kPa (0.28 kgf/cm2, 4 psi)
Rear Tire, off-road/road air pressure Tubeless Dunlop AT20 x 10-9, 34.57 kPa (0.35 kgf/cm2, 5 psi)
Front Brake Type Dual hydraulic discs w/ twin piston calipers
Rear Brake Type Disc brake

Suspension

The handlebars of the KFX 400 are unaffected by high-speed acceleration or bump absorption. It is simple to turn and accelerate through the trees. More aggressive riding and dry, hard packs expose the vehicle’s weakness and proclivity for body roll.

Frame Type High-tensile tubular steel alloy
Caster, Trail 8.5°, 36 mm (1.42 in)
Steering Angle 41°
Turning Radius 3.1 m (10.2 ft)
Front Suspension Type, Travel Independent, double-wishbone, coil spring, oil damped (adjustable fork preload), 215 mm (8.5 in)
Rear Suspension Type, Travel Aluminum swingarm-type, coil spring, oil damped (preload, rebound and compression damping adjustable), 230 mm (9.1 in)

Dimensions

The KFX 400 has always been the lightest automobile in the 400-cc class. In order to maintain this condition, it had to replace the valve, clutch, and ignition covers with new magnesium covers, add an aluminum front bumper and rear grab bar and modify the shift lever with aluminum.

Dry Weight 169 Kg (373 lbs)
Vehicle Load Capacity Limit 110 Kg (243 lbs)

Exterior

Surprisingly, the machine had no instruments for a sport quad. Although it did not have an analog speedometer or odometer, it did come equipped with 12V 3W neutral, reverse, and coolant temperature warning lights.

Long trail rides require support, which is provided by footpegs perched above serrated footrests. The quad’s seating arrangement also fits riders of ordinary height as well as those who are higher.

The quad has improved light distribution thanks to its dual 30-watt headlights, 21-watt brake light, and 5-watt taillight.

Lime Green, Metallic Marble Red, and Blazing Orange are somebody panel color choices that lend some flare to the machine’s sexy appearance.
