John Deere 2355  Problems & Solutions

Problems and Solutions at a Glance:

 Poor Start

The tractors often fail to start again after being left idle for a while. You can’t get them going until you bypass the solenoid. After a time of operation, the tractor frequently shuts off.

It’s not uncommon to be unable to leap as well. The ignition could click as it fires up. However, the tractor won’t crank.

Solutions

There are a number of potential causes for such behavior in a tractor. Consequently, there is a plethora of advice for fixing problems.

If you need a quick repair, try driving with the clutch depressed and the gear selector in neutral. Also, make sure no fuses have blown. Fuse 5 or 6 seems to blow more frequently.

The solenoids are disabled due to a blown fuse. There are additional potential causes of solenoid damage. There could be a number of reasons why the tractor won’t start, including a faulty relay switch or corroded and unclean connections.

Here’s what to do for a more precise repair: There are two short cables that link the instrument cluster to the neutral start switch. It’s possible (and testable) that one of the wires has infinite resistance.

A cold solder joint could also be found. Connector replacement should fix this wire.

 PTO Not Disengaging Problems

The PTO does not disengage and continues to operate continuously. It happens rather often in this cab. And it’s a tough problem to solve.

Rubbing and corrosion of the PTO clutch. The result is constant operation.

Solutions

It has been suggested that checking PTO pressure could be the solution to this problem. However, it’s not always reliable. The cab must be taken apart in its entirety if the clutch is to be serviced or inspected.

The clutch must be disassembled. In addition, the cab must be removed in order to reach the area behind the clutch housing, which must be separated.

The issue may be resolved by propping up the cab from underneath. The cover for the gear shifter has secret bolts. The axle housing can be taken off with these bolts as well.

Sticky Brakes Problems

There has been a report of jammed brakes on the John Deere 2355. Putting the tractor’s rear up like it’s in gear won’t make either wheel spin. When the parking brake is applied, it seems to have no effect.

Steering and braking problems in tractors are common as the weather becomes warmer.

Solutions

Since there are no hydraulic brakes on this tractor, you’ll have to use your own muscle to slow down. Leaks can form around the equalizer valve, the piston check valve, and the wheel piston o-ring.

Plugging the line and listening for a hard pedal is a good way to check for leaks in the wheel packing. Wheel packing is poor if you do find one. The equalizer valve is likely the cause if you don’t.

John Deere 2355 Review

The John Deere 2355 is a strong little tractor. It might not be the fanciest or most comfy one around, but it’s tough, can do lots of different things, and doesn’t use up too much fuel. It’s also easy to use, so it’s good if you’ve never had a tractor before.

But, there are a couple of things you should remember before you get a 2355. The dry clutch might be tricky to handle, and the front part might not be super strong, especially if the tractor has been used a lot. Also, if it needs fixing, it could cost you quite a bit.
