The John Deere New Generation line (starting with the John Deere 2010 and its sister models) was genuinely revolutionary.

It designed the first modern, 4-cylinder tractors the John Deere company had ever made. In this line, various tractors became incredibly reliable and are still in use today – most notably, the John Deere 4020.

However, a few losses came with the victory. In my opinion, John Deere 2010 is a tractor to steer clear of.

The John Deere 2010  has an engine oil capacity of 5 qts  (4.7  liters). It weighs between 5054 to 5120 pounds, and its fuel capacity is  16 gal 60.6 L.

John Deere’s 2010 Row-Crop tractor was a huge advance for its time. The John Deere company tried out lots of new plans with the New Generation line, and John Deere 2010 included a new engine design.

It had the choice of being powered by one of three different motors, a diesel, gasoline, or LP gas model.

Now, let’s find out the John Deere 2010 Tractor’s Price, Specs, Review, Attachments, Weight, Features & Images, and more. I hope it will be useful to you.

John Deere 2010 Problems

Users’ pain because of problems is a big deal. It’s not fun when the engine works but goes as slowly as a snail.

Let’s look at the problems and possible solutions:

Troubleshooting the Engine

  • After some use, a common gripe is that the engine power drops without warning. The fuel filter element is clogged, so the engine is hard to start or won’t start at all.
  • The speed of the fuel injection pump is off, so the engine stops running when it shouldn’t. The machine getting too hot is another sign that the radiator cap or core is broken or clogged.
  • One must first try to figure out where the trouble comes from. When there is a problem with the gas, it is best to service or change the filter. The trouble could be anything from not enough gas to too much air in the tank. No matter what is going on, the fuel tank needs to be drained.
  • Also, check to see if any of the fuel injection valves are broken or clogged. Nozzles should be looked at and, if needed, changed. Let’s say that it looks like the fuel injection pump is broken. The oil pump should either be fixed or replaced.
  • When the engine stops working on its own while it’s running, you know you have a big problem. The time of the fuel injection pump should be looked at. The gas filter could also be jammed, which is bad.
  • Please take the filter media out and clean it well. Once the coolant has cooled down, you can start the engine and let it get warm.
  • If the engine gets too hot, try changing the cap or cleaning the radiator. Make sure the system is full enough and check for leaks. The fan belt could be broken or it could just be loose. Change the fan belt if it needs to be. Don’t forget to check the amount of oil and add more if needed.

Hydraulics Issues

  • The wrong hydraulic fluid makes the hydraulics on this model boil, which is another thing that makes users unhappy. The hydraulic pump has stopped working, so the three-point hitch can’t be raised or lowered too slowly.
  • When hydraulic oil gets dirty, the first thing to do is to change it with clean fluid. Fill the tank with new hydraulic oil. The air is therefore a part of the hydraulic system.
  • The hydraulic system needs to be bled. If the main pressure-relief valve has stopped working, you need a new one right away.
  • A hydraulic fluid pump should also be included in case the machine needs to be fixed or filled up in the future. When you find out that the main release valve has stopped working. We need a new air release valve.

Steering Problem

  • Some users have said that the steering is too sensitive. Sometimes, the turning wheel may have too much play.
  • When the coupler or shaft in the steering column goes out, this is what happens. Because of the airlock in the system, it may be hard for users to move.
  • The first step in fixing a problem is to swap out the broken part. When the hydraulic steering pump shows signs of wear and tear, a new pump should be put in. Parts of the steering mechanism are either loose or worn out.
  • Check that everything works and replace any broken parts. The power steering box needs to have worn or broken parts replaced.
  • If your steering is very stiff, you might need to let the air out of the system. If the part of the steering filter gets clogged, clean it or replace it. Put steering oil on the parts of the steering box that are broken.
  • Parts of the power steering shaft that aren’t up to par must be switched out. If the steering pump control valve is broken or stuck, it needs to be replaced or cleaned.

Transmission Issues

  • When you drive a Deere 2010, you might hear an unusually high amount of transmission noise. This is because the backlash is wrong or the gears are worn. Because the worn or rusty gear is in direct touch with the shift linkage, it also makes shifting harder.
  • When your transmission oil pressure is low, you are getting low on transmission fluid. Also, fluid leaks to the outside world are caused by broken seals and valves.
  • First, fix the gears or set the backlash if the shift forks are worn or broken. The shift forks need to be changed. At least one of the shaft’s splines is worn out or stuck. Fix the broken shaft as soon as possible.
  • Also, make sure that the oil in the housing of the gearbox is at the right amount. If the bearings are broken or worn out, you need to get new ones.
  • The car can’t move because the system for changing gears is broken. If the moving forks are broken, you should fix them. But broken parts have to be replaced with new ones.
  • When the transmission oil level gets too high, it’s time to change or service the transmission oil filter. Changing the covers and seals would also help. As needed, the amount of oil should be changed.

John Deere 2010 Tractor Review

The John Deere 2010 tractor is made really well and has some cool stuff, but it’s not always dependable, and it can be hard to find parts for it. It’s not the best choice for your main hardworking tractor.

If you do have one, make sure you take good care of it and get a good mechanic to check it often.  For a full review, please check this YouTube video.

You said a 2010 was a tractor to stay clear of, would you elaborate.

Paul Broadhurst

I have been looking for a tractor to use in my woodlot, I want one with a loader and three point hitch to do some brush hogging. I want something reasonably priced because will mainly be used to pull out tree tops and blow downs for firewood. What would you recommend ? The 2010 came up on face book thats why I was checking specs on that.
