The early 1930s U.S. farm sizes study conducted by Harry Merritt, manager of the Allis tractor business, led to the development of the Allis-Chalmers model B. More than half of all farms were under 100 acres at the time, and farms bigger than 100 acres tended to utilise tractors more frequently.
